So the much anticipated Polypill looks to have come a step closer.

Radio 4’s Today programme had an interview this morning with Eminent Professor, Peter Weissman, Copy of interview via link below:

This issue will be who will manufacture the Polypill as there’s no mega-bucks to ma made as all the ingredients are off patent. It’s an interesting concept and I guess anything that improves compliance has got to be a good thing.

MIMS have just upgraded their website. (Link Below)

http://www.mims.co.uk/

I’ve had a quick look through and it seem to be a great new resource for pharmacists. Email updates and alerts are particularly helpful.

It doesn’t seem right that it doesn’t fall open at the malaria page!!!

I don’t often use the pharmacy blog to advertise specific vanancies – - I post those at www.pharmacyjobsuk.co.uk However when a particularly interesting jobs pops up I reserve the right to post them here.

The interesting position is at the Immigration and control centre close to Heathrow airport and is for ideally, a NVQ3 qualified pharmacy technician (Although they may consider an NVQ2 candidate with suitable experience)

The candidate is needed as soon as possible and will have to go through a full CRB, CTC and Home Office clearance

Please call Shaun on 01677 424215 for more details

I’m not sure about you but I get really wound up when the press call pharmacists, chemists. They will even say “Fred Bogs the pharmacists working at the local chemists shop!” Why, why, why! It just confuses the public and re-inforces the picture that all pharmacist are middle-aged men with bolding heads, glasses and a white coat pouring mixtures from one Winchester to another.  Not that I have anything against pharmacist who fit this description to a T or for that matter real chemists who also come in all shapes and sizes but, you know what I mean. Don’t you?

I trained to becaome a pharmacist, not a chemist. I went to a school of pharmacy, studied pharmacy law and ethics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical chemistry and even attended university with real chemists. i.e. those students studying chemistry.

So if had my way, I would make all pharmacists who trade as chemists change their name including Boots The Chemist and simplify the picture for professionals, patients and press.

STOP PRESS : Just checked my registration certificate – I’m a pharmaceutical chemist apparently….doh!

PL-UK – for all the best chemists jobs!
