Locum Pharmacists have their very own PA!

Locum Pharmacists have their very own PA!

Why should locum pharmacists use locum agencies? After all, they don’t have to, they could just contant pharmacies direct and work that way.

In theory this is fine until you start getting multiple calls every morning asking you to cover and the rates start decreasing as they think that you are hooked on working for their company.

This is where pharmacy locum agencies come in. They will look after your every need, takings those calls from companies wishing to book your services and making sure you get the hourly rate your deserve. It’s almost like having your very own PA! Even better, you don’t have to pay a penny for these PA services!

PL-UK have a locum PA looking for locums in Devon, Cornwall, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Somerset.

What do you want from a pharmacy locum agency?

What do you want from a pharmacy locum agency?

When you run a company it’s sometimes all too easy to think you have all the answers about how the company should be run. However, it’s worth checking regularly that this is the case, especially with our most important assets – our locums. Therefore I’d be really interested to hear from locum pharmacists and locum pharmacy technicians to see what they think about PL-UK in terms of:

  1. the service we provide
  2. our ability to fill your diary
  3. the rates we obtain for you (especially in comparison to other agencies)

…and when we look to the future:

  1. how we can support you in terms of the Responsible Pharmacist Regulations
  2. how we might support locum pharmacists on the national stage
  3. Any changes you suggest on how we run the PL-UK service e.g. later opening, weekend opening etc

Many thanks in anticipation for your help.

Responsible Pharmacist toolkit

I’ve being using the time i have due my incapacitation to read through the responsible pharmacist toolkit. (Mine arrived on Friday) To be honest, apart from the bureaucratic changes in terms of the need to sign in as the responsible pharmacist when required, I don’t see things changing too dramatically after 1st October. The only thing that does change is that pharmacy staff are able to sell GSL’s in the absence of the pharmacists (as long as the absence if for less that two hours) which is long over due.

The toolkit does answer allay many of the questions I had about responsible pharmacist regulations and has a very good section for locums. As someone who is usually only too happy to knock the RPSGB, I have to say that they have done a good job this time. I particularly like the personalised “responsible pharmacist sign” and “notice for pharmacy staff”

I think more fundamental changes will occur after the changes to supervision that are likely to happen in 2011.

Where are all the locum technicians?

We have some fantastic positions in hospital and prison service pharmacies for locum pharmacy technicians but alas, no technicians to fill them.

If you know and locum pharmacy technicians, particularly in the Yorkshire/North East England region, please let me know.

Rewards are on offer!

Too much time on my hands

Too much time on my hands

As you may have read in my previous post, I recently broke my ankle playing rugby. The initial post-operative recovery period is now over and frustration is taking hold.

My consultant has told me than I can’t weight bare for thee more weeks and this is followed by three weeks “semi-weight” baring….. whatever that means.

I can’t pop through to the kitchen to make a coffee because my foot goes a rare shade of blue and every day tasks take forever. My wife, God bless her, has had to do to everything for me from bringing me breakfast in bed, to making all the meals and sorting the kids out.

The Bank holiday weekend will see me sat on the sofa for another three days with my leg raised above my heart (as instructed) so I hope there’s something good on the TV!!!
