Results of the 2009 locum pharmacists pay rate survey

| June 5, 2009 | 2 Comments

In April this year we we carried out a survey of our locum pharmacists to find out what hourly rates locum pharmacists are securing in 2009 and how they compare to 2008.

The results relate to all locum bookings i.e. those obtained by all agencies and booking direct.

I have found that this year company’s are very reluctant to pay higher rates (i.e. above £25) and obtaining travel time has become near impossible. Also experienced that there isn’t a great deal of work out there this summer compared to last year. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have noticed the same. There seem to be more locums around or more willing to work at lower rates perhaps because of the recession. What I have therefore done is to make myself available only on the day and I then charge for the full day @ min £30/hr. I am finding I am still able to gross an average of nearly £300 with less hours and on average am getting 3-4 days/week, which suits me. There have been exceptions where I have got even more. One booking recently grossed over £400 on normal hours but this is unusual and they were desperate.
