Don’t just book any locum, book a PL-UK locum.

Don’t just book any locum, book a PL-UK locum.

It disappoints me sometimes when we talk to locum coordinators who want a locum for a gap. The disappointment is not because they have approached me to fill their requirement, it’s that they just want a locum i.e. anyone with a GPhC registration.

Locum pharmacists, like all professionals cover a normal distribution curve in terms of ability, attitude and professionalism. i.e. some a fantastic, some are rubbish and most sit somewhere in the middle.

At PL-UK we are confident that our locum pharmacists and locum pharmacy technicians are very much at the top-end of the normal distribution curve i.e. fantastic and as such we want locum coordinators to want a PL-UK locum, not just any locum. I guess our challenge is getting this message across.

Don’t just book a locum, book a PLUK locum!

Be careful with your digital identity.

I read somewhere that 25% of women under 25  check Facebook before visiting the bathroom in the morning! I’m not sure if this is true or how the researchers came up with the data but it indicates how important Social Media is to people today.

However it’s really important that you are careful with what you Tweet and Facebook at this blog post my marketing friend Jim Connolly and includes a quote from a business women who lost an important contract due to inappropriate use of Social Media.

Looking for locum pharmacists in the North East

We have lots of work available for locum pharmacists in the North East of England. I know, in some areas of the country that locum pharmacists are struggling to find work, so if you know anyone up north and they wouldn’t mind you staying for a week or two, give PL-UK a ring on 0333 123 3344.

The Shaun Hockey Daily launched

I’m not claiming that it will rival the Times, Guardian or Telegraph but I’m pleased to announce the launch of the Shaun Hockey Daily – a daily emailed newspaper with content from people I find interesting in the worlds of pharmacy, healthcare, www, sport and celebrity.

Make 2011 the year of the pharmacist.

Make 2011 the year of the pharmacist.

My hope for 2011 is that it will become remembered as the year our profession started focusing on the individual pharmacist again. Too much time in recent years has been spent focusing on pharmacies, (Control of entry regulations) and the profession of pharmacy ( split of the representative and regulatory function of RPSGB)

During this time we have lost focus on the pharmacists who are working their fingers to the bone dispensing ever increasing numbers of prescriptions without the corresponding increase in reward, either professionally or financially.

So Royal Pharmaceutical Society , make 2011 the year you make a difference for the individual  pharmacists who pay their membership fees  in the hope that they receive representation to make their working lives more rewarding, or you may find that the number of renewals come March 1st will come as a bit of a shock!
