Be careful with your digital identity.

I read somewhere that 25% of women under 25  check Facebook before visiting the bathroom in the morning! I’m not sure if this is true or how the researchers came up with the data but it indicates how important Social Media is to people today.

However it’s really important that you are careful with what you Tweet and Facebook at this blog post my marketing friend Jim Connolly and includes a quote from a business women who lost an important contract due to inappropriate use of Social Media.

Uncertainty for NHS Pharmacy Staff

Uncertainty for NHS Pharmacy Staff

I regularly work as a locum pharmacist, usually in one of five secure establishments in the North East. On a number of occasions over recent years, the contract to supply healthcare services to these establishments has gone “out to tender” with a local PCT usually winning the contract.

This time, the contract has been awarded to a provider from outside the NHS and there is a lot of uncertainty for the staff with many looking for new positions elsewhere in  the NHS. As a private provider of services to the NHS, I’m all in favour of private companies supporting the NHS but I can understand the pharmacy team’s concern. As they say better the devil you know

I have worked with the company concerned (not mentioning names at present as I believe an appeal is in progress) and I’m sure the staff will be fine – we recruited both locum pharmacists and a new permanent pharmacy manager for them in a different location, and all spoke highly of the company.

So, if you are in this position, don’t worry too much. Find out about the company  and their plans for you establishment and just think, if you are like most NHS employees you will moan about your bosses most of the time, the new guys and gals might be better to work for!!!

New Year, New Pharmacy Job?

Last locum day before Christmas?

Last locum day before Christmas?

Baring any emergencies or extreme weather events (Look at met office for the end of the week!) today should be my last day working as a locum pharmacist this side of Christmas but does this mean an easy ride to the holiday season? Oh no!

At PL-UK we are working on two exciting improvements to the service we provide both clients and pharmacists/pharmacy staff. One of these improves the service we provide to locum pharmacists and the other will redically change the service we provide to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians looking for new permanent pharmacy jobs.

Christmas and New Year opening at PL-UK

Christmas and New Year opening

It’s that time of year again when we are all frantically buying gifts to give to loved ones at Christmas and looking forward to a well earned rest over the festive period. At PL-UK we try to make the most of the Christmas and New Year holiday whilst maintaining a effective service for locums and clients.

Over the next week, Lynne and Linda will be calling all the locums we have working over the period Christmas day to Bank Holiday Monday 3rd January to make sure that their diaries and perfectly synced to our plans and likewise, contacting all our clients as well to make sure they are expecting locums when we have them booked.

However, we also understand that pharmacists can fall ill over the festive period and that severe weather can cause problems, so we stay open to make sure all pharmacies are covered. The official opening hours for the holiday week can be found below but I will be on call throughout the week to support where necessary. I might not answer the phone straight away (outside the hours below) if I’m in the middle of eating my Turkey or beating the kids on “Let’s Dance” on the Wii, but I will check my mobile regularly and get back to you ASAP.
