Better communication and care coordination needed to reduce medication errors

Really interesting article on PJ Online about the lack of communications causing a 200% increase in medication errors. I couldn’t agree more as I mentioned in a previous post http://www.pluk.co.uk/2010/pharmacist-access-to-medical-information/

Pharmacists need access to medical information to fulfil their potential as the healthcare providers on the high street and could make a masssive impact in terms of drug costs and effectiveness. To me it’s a no-brainer but until the government start contracting with professionals i.e. individual pharmacists and not shops it’ll never happen because GP’s don’t want supermarkets and multi-nationals to have access to their patient’s medical records

Liver trust trials pharmacy as hepatitis screening venue

A community pharmacy screening pilot for intravenous drug misusers identified 68 per cent of patients who had unknowingly been exposed to hepatitis C.

The scheme, set up by the British Liver Trust, illustrates how community pharmacies that already offer needle exchange and methadone services for drug misusers can help identify undiagnosed liver disease.

We do permanent to!

We do permanent to!

As you know, I am very proud of the fact that we scored 95% in our customer satisfaction survey last week.  However, two areas that we scored lower in were for our marketing material and awareness of all the services we offer.

The marketing material issue is in hand and we will be producing hard copies and PDF’s flyers explaining the services we provide in the next few weeks, with regard to services, this post is the start of a song and dance about other services we provide.

We started of life trading in 2003 as Pharmacy Locums UK – a pure locum agency supplying locum pharmacists and technicians across all sectors. Most pharmacists and pharmacy owners/operators are aware of this and understand this part of our business.

However, in 2006 we changed our trading name to PL-UK Recruitment to acknowledge and advertise the fact that we no longer provide just locum agency services but also permanent recruitment services. Apparently, as the results of our survey show, this is less well known and the challenge for me now is changing this to make sure that clients and candidates know that we provide both locum and permanent recruitment services.

Let the challenge begin!

PL-UK – The number one choice for pharmacy recruitment solutions in the UK

When you are looking for a new job, where do you look first? Monster? Total Jobs or corporate websites like Boots and Lloyds?

Don’t just book any locum, book a PL-UK locum.

Don’t just book any locum, book a PL-UK locum.

It disappoints me sometimes when we talk to locum coordinators who want a locum for a gap. The disappointment is not because they have approached me to fill their requirement, it’s that they just want a locum i.e. anyone with a GPhC registration.

Locum pharmacists, like all professionals cover a normal distribution curve in terms of ability, attitude and professionalism. i.e. some a fantastic, some are rubbish and most sit somewhere in the middle.

At PL-UK we are confident that our locum pharmacists and locum pharmacy technicians are very much at the top-end of the normal distribution curve i.e. fantastic and as such we want locum coordinators to want a PL-UK locum, not just any locum. I guess our challenge is getting this message across.

Don’t just book a locum, book a PLUK locum!
